The 231 Technique
A numerical framework for rendering intention into reality.
Overview
The 231 Technique is a momentum framework reduced to its most primordial form. It describes the fundamental cycle through which anything gets created — from doing the dishes to launching a career. When action feels overwhelming or impossible, 231 reduces the process to three numbers and removes the noise.
The Cycle
Then the cycle resets. A new 2 forms. A new idea separates from you. And it begins again.
Every Scale
231 operates at every scale. The framework is the same at every level. The scale changes. The cycle doesn't.
The dishes are in the sink. You and the task exist separately (2). You do them (3). They're done — collapses to one (1). Momentum generated.
You have a song idea. You and the idea (2). You produce it (3). You release it (1). Next song begins.
You have a vision for your life. You and the vision (2). You build it over years (3). It becomes your reality (1).
Why It Works
When you're overwhelmed, it's usually because you're seeing the full complexity of a task — every substep, every possible failure, every thing that could go wrong. 231 strips all of that away. There are only ever three states: separated, created, integrated. You're always in one of them. Identify which one, and the next move is obvious.
Numbers are primary. Before language, before narrative, before the story you tell yourself about why something is hard — there's just the count. Two things need to become three, then three collapses to one. That's it.
Momentum
Each completed 231 cycle feeds the next. The confidence, energy, and evidence generated by finishing one cycle makes the next cycle easier to initiate. This is how momentum compounds — not through motivation or willpower, but through repeated completion of the cycle at whatever scale is available to you.
If you can't do the macro cycle, do a micro one. Do the dishes. Send the message. Finish the verse. Each completion is a proof of concept that you can render reality. Stack enough of them and the bigger cycles become possible.
